Charging hourly vs. charging per project
As a freelancer, there is often a debate about charging hourly vs. charging per project. I want to get into more of the latter, but don’t know how to bundle user research services (it makes more sense for something like building a website). Any designers or dev freelancers out there that bundle their services? Any portfolios/websites of individuals that you think do a great job?
Neil, I am not a designer and developer, so I know I’m not the voice you requested to hear, but I think my rule of thumb may still apply to you.
For basic packages, you give the client the bare minimum of what they asked for (not in your personal service, but in terms of line items).
For mid-tier packages, you give the client the very best of what they asked for.
Then for premium packages, you give the client the very best of what they asked for PLUS extra things they didn’t ask for, but will most likely need anyway.
These three packages are of course priced progressively more expensive.
Hope that helps.
Thanks, Ben. How much higher would you set the price of the “premium” package? I know it’s on a case by case basis, but twice as much as the middle tier? Or would that be too much?
that’s a fantastic way of categorizing those levels
