Is online accounting software for freelancers and small business owners too difficult to learn and use?

That what FreshBooks asked when they surveyed 300 North American-based accountants and bookkeepers with small business clients were asked their opinions about online accounting software for freelancers and small business owners.

71% of respondents to the survey – the clear majority – said that their clients used QuickBooks.

Survey Results: Online Accounting Software is Too Complicated

The research found that:

  1. Almost 68% say small business owners find it intimidating
  2. Almost 69% say small business owners find it difficult to learn
  3. 83% agree it’s typical for small business owners to make mistakes when using it
  4. 2 out of 3 believe small business owners require specialised accounting skills or experience to use it

FreshBooks surveyed more than 300 North American-based accountants and bookkeepers online in January of 2019. Respondents were asked their opinions about small business accounting software. The study’s margin of error is +/- 5.5% at 95% confidence.
